How You Run
Foundation Guide

Before anything can be built, there has to be something to build from. This guide is the process of finding out what you actually stand on in nine areas of your life.

Not what you think you believe. Not what sounds right. What is actually there when you remove everything borrowed, inherited, or performed.

What a Foundation Is

Every area of your life is running on a belief. Most of those beliefs were not consciously chosen. They arrived through experience, through what people around you repeated, through the environments you moved through before you were old enough to decide what was true. Over time those beliefs became the ground you stand on without knowing it.

A foundation is different. A foundation is the belief you have examined, recognised, and chosen to stand on deliberately. The one statement per area of your life that you can say with honesty: this is what I know to be true for me right now. I have looked at it. I am choosing it.

It does not have to be permanent. Foundations shift as you do. But at any given moment, knowing what you are actually standing on changes how you move. You stop being run by beliefs you never examined and start operating from ones you chose.

The most important thing you can know is what you actually stand on.

How to Use This Guide

Nine areas. One at a time. Each section gives you a brief description of that territory and a set of questions designed to move you past the comfortable answer and toward the honest one.

Read the questions slowly. Notice what surfaces before you shape it into something presentable. The first thing that arrives is usually closer to what is actually true than what you settle on after thinking about it.

At the end of each section there is space to write the one statement that you are willing to stand on in that area right now. There is no correct answer. There is only the honest one.

Take as long as you need. Return to the ones that resist you. The resistance is usually pointing at exactly the thing that needs to be looked at.

Family
Bonds

The people you were born into and the people you chose. This territory holds what you actually believe about obligation, love, and who belongs in your life on your own terms. Many people carry inherited ideas about what family should look like without ever examining whether those ideas are theirs.

Sit with these

If the family you were born into disappeared from your life tomorrow, would you feel relief or grief?

Is there someone you call family out of obligation?

What is the one thing you will not compromise on in any family relationship regardless of the cost?

Spiritual and
Soul Growth

How you understand your own existence. The frameworks you have adopted, the ones you built yourself, and the things you know to be true that no framework has ever fully named. This is the territory underneath every other area. What you believe about existence shapes everything else.

Sit with these

Would you sit comfortably with someone whose belief system is the complete opposite of yours?

If every spiritual framework you have ever used was proven false tomorrow, what would you still know to be true?

Is your spiritual practice something you chose?

Body and
Movement

The physical instrument you live inside. What you actually believe about it right now, underneath the goals and the ideals. The relationship between how you treat your body and what you believe it deserves reveals more about your foundation than any health metric ever could.

Sit with these

Do you believe someone will fully accept you exactly as you are in your body right now?

If your body never changed from this moment forward, what would you make peace with?

Is how you treat your body an act of care or an act of punishment?

Inner Child
and Fun

The part of you that existed before you learned to be productive. What you believe about your right to rest, play, and exist outside of output. For most people this territory has been so thoroughly buried under responsibility and achievement that finding it requires deliberate excavation.

Sit with these

When did you last do something with no outcome attached?

Do you believe you have earned the right to enjoy your life?

What did you love as a child that you have quietly set aside?

Knowledge and
Expansion

What you believe about your own capacity to grow. The ideas you have pursued and the ones you have talked yourself out of. Underneath every learning goal and every abandoned interest is a belief about what you are actually capable of and what you have given yourself permission to explore.

Sit with these

Is there something you have always wanted to understand that you have talked yourself out of pursuing?

Do you believe your best thinking is behind you or ahead of you?

If you could learn anything with guaranteed success, what would it be?

Love, Desire
and Intimacy

Your relationship with yourself first. What your choices reveal about what you believe you deserve in love and connection. The stated belief and the lived belief are often different things. The patterns in your choices are more honest than anything you would say out loud about what you want.

Sit with these

Is the person you are with or wanting to be with filling a void within yourself?

If you gave yourself the same quality of love you give to the people you care most about, what would change?

What do you believe you have to become before you are fully worthy of love exactly as you are?

Connection
to Others

How you show up in the world beyond your inner circle. What you believe about your place in it and your right to take up space as yourself. The gap between who you are in private and who you allow others to see is one of the most revealing things about what you actually believe you are allowed to be.

Sit with these

Are the people currently in your life a reflection of who you are or who you were?

Is there a version of yourself you perform socially that the people around you have never seen past?

If you spoke your actual opinion in every room you entered, what would you lose?

Money
and Matter

What you actually believe about money and what you are allowed to have. The belief running underneath the goals and the affirmations. Most people carry a story about what is available to them specifically that is entirely separate from what they say they want. That story is the foundation.

Sit with these

If you lost everything financially tomorrow, what would that feeling tell you about what money actually means to you?

Do you believe that having more than enough is available to you specifically?

What is the story you tell yourself about why you do not yet have the material life you want?

Business
and External

What you are building in the world and what you believe about your right to build it. The belief underneath the strategy. Whether what you are working on is an expression of who you are or a construction of who you think you should be is the most important question in this territory.

Sit with these

If no one ever validated what you are building, would you keep building it?

Is what you are working on an expression of who you are?

What would you build if failure was a data point you were allowed to remove?

What Your Foundation Reveals

Nine areas. Nine honest statements about where you are actually standing. Some will have arrived easily. Some will have resisted you. Some may still be blank and waiting for you to return to them.

All of that is information. The ones that came easily show you where your foundation is already solid. The ones that resisted show you where a belief has been running that has not yet been examined. The blank ones show you where something is still forming.

What Comes Next

Once you can see what you are standing on, the next question is whether you want to stay there. Some of what you found will feel true and worth keeping. Some will reveal a belief you inherited rather than chose. Some will show you something that has been shaping your decisions for years without your awareness.

Changing a foundational belief is not a mental exercise. It takes time, honest examination, and usually the experience of living through the old belief failing before the new one can take hold. That work is not comfortable. It is the work that actually changes how a life runs.

Looking at what you found and asking whether you want it to change is the beginning of that.

Going Deeper
The MT9

MT9 is a nine-area system built around the same territories this guide covers. Each area is an active working space for tracking where you are, what you are building, and what you are ready to release. The difference between this guide and MT9 is the difference between seeing your foundation and actively working it. If something in these nine areas showed you something you want to move, MT9 is built for exactly that.
